Selecting the correct tile adhesive is just as important as selecting the right tile for the project. The job of the adhesive is to bond the bottom of the tile to a surface, called the setting bed. In the last few years, there have been vast improvements in adhesives which make it easier for people to lay tile themselves, without contracting the job out to a professional. Organic mastics and thin-set mortar are most common, although latex, acrylic, and epoxy are also used.

Adhesive stains on marble tops usually come from adhesive tape. Over time it will leave a sticky residue that has a dark appearance. These stains can also collect dirt which can further make its texture uneven; they cannot be removed completely by manually scrapping them off with your hands. Learning how to remove adhesive from marble is relatively easy, however, and can be performed using a few readily available tools and materials.

　Marble is a strong material, but it can break. Too much pressure can break a piece of marble, and a heavy object dropped onto the surface can crack or chip the surface of the marble. If your marble object breaks, you don't have to throw the stone away. You can glue the pieces back together using a glue designed for use with stones and marble. Stone glue gives the stone a strong bond that is difficult to break. Make sure you glue the marble together correctly the first time, because you will not be able to loosen the bond to try the repair again.
